Hi guys!
I am currently living and working in London. After leaving school I went
to London College of Music, when after 3 years of opera decided that it
wasn't for me after all! I then decided to set off for a ski resort to
try my hand at cooking! Big mistake that was to change pretty much everything.
Started working for a company called Ski Verbier which prides itself on
it's luxurious chalets and gourmet chefs! (I had never cooked in my life
but managed to bluff my way in!) Anyway! I did one season and learnt a
lot both in the kitchen and in the bar. Then by a chance meeting the following
summer with Lucy Ainslie, I managed to persuade her to come out the following
season to work with me! 4 winters later we were still there, still having
the times of our lives although our lives probably didn't agree! On returning
for the 4th summer while we were we both trying to earn some pennies,
we ended up washing up at Sotherbys on the same day where we were being
bossed about by a terrifying butler. It was at this point that we decided
that we would be better off working for ourselves so after a long lunch
the following day Ministry of Food was born! (I can hear the amazment
in the thought of Lucy and I cooking for a start, let alone starting a
catering company together! No one was as shocked as us!) Ministry of Food
is still going great guns and we cater for private clients doing dinner
parties and drinks parties in London and the home counties. We have stayed
small so far although we have our first weddings booked for the summer
of 2002 when I am hoping to be living back down in Sussex and concentrating
on the cooking full time. I also still work full time for Ski Verbier
for my sins helping to run the London end. This is great fun and keeps
me on my toes (and I had to learn to use a computer as I never did pay
attention in word processing at school!). It also means that I get to
go out to Verbier quite a lot during the winter to cook and to ski! Love
it!
I am still as mad as ever on the horses too and have a lovely irish horse
at the moment called Bob who I compete in events up to 3 day standard.
That is my adrenalin kick! It would be great to hear from anyone and I
hope that you are all having fun! masses of love Ems xxx
NEW!
Finally after 3 years of talking about it we have finally shut
the door on our London flat this morning and are fleeing to Sussex!
We are still going to be working up here at the moment so you haven't
totally got rid of us!
Hopefully we will see you all down there really soon although it is going
to be a bit of a building site for a while but there is always a spare
bed.
